There has been a short reprieve as the House Justice Committee breaks for the holidays before completing its review of Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, and concerned Canadians should use this time to flood their MPs’ offices with letters asking them to vote down the bill and protect free expression in Canada.
We have created a Template Letter to assist you in writing to your MP. Simply download and edit or cut and paste the PDF below and enter your personal information in the [fields].
Tips for Personalizing Your Letter
Alternatively, you can personalize your letter with the help of AI (e.g., Grok, ChatGPT), inputting your own prompts or giving it the link to the FSUC’s brief about Bill C-9 (found here: https://fsucanada.ca/fsuc-submits-brief-to-house-justice-committee-on-bill-c-9/) and asking it to summarize into the form of a letter to your Canadian Member of Parliament.
§ Massage the language as desired
§ Read through the concerns listed and add and remove as needed
§ Be concise, polite, and respectful throughout the letter.
§ Keep a copy of your letter and follow up if you do not receive a reply in a reasonable time.
Where to Send Your Letter
You can send your letter by mail (no postage is required when sending to MPs at the House of Commons), by email, or by using your MP’s online contact form. Find your MP and their contact details at www.ourcommons.ca/members/en.
