The Free Speech Union of Canada (FSU Canada) is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This policy complies with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and relevant provincial legislation.

Your personal information (name, address, phone number, email, donation history, etc.) is stored using secure technologies. FSU Canada adheres to strict policies to prevent unauthorized access or use.

2. Information Collection and Use
FSU Canada receives personal information through our website (https://fsucanada.ca), emails, direct mail, and referrals from existing supporters.
- Voluntary Provision: Information is used to provide updates, project information, and appeals related to FSU Canada’s mission and activities.
- Third-Party Sources: Information obtained without direct consent is acquired only through publicly available sources like online directories, or from trusted sources (e.g. from related campaigns, petitions or projects you may have participated in with members of our FSUC Team).
- Non-Disclosure: We do not, under any circumstances, sell, exchange, or give away your personal information to third parties for their own marketing.
- Aggregated Data: We may share anonymized, aggregate information about our supporter base with third parties for business or reporting purposes.
3. Website Technical Data (WordPress)
Our website uses WordPress and legitimate plugins to manage user interactions:
- Comments: When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string to aid spam detection. An anonymized string (hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service.
- Media: If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as other visitors may download and extract this.

- If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name and email in cookies for your convenience (lasts one year).
- Login cookies are set to determine browser compatibility and save display choices (lasting from two days to one year depending on selection).
4. Third-Party Service Providers
We provide information to third parties on a strictly confidential and secured basis only to perform services on our behalf (e.g., email distribution, client relations management (CRM), surveys, or processing text messages).
International Data Transfers: While FSU Canada is based in Canada, we utilize platforms like Google. You acknowledge that your data may be stored or processed on servers outside of Canada and may be accessible to foreign law enforcement under local laws (such as the U.S. CLOUD Act).
5. Petitions and Campaigns
FSU Canada occasionally organizes petition campaigns. The names and addresses collected on these petitions are presented to the designated politician or body to whom the petition is addressed. By signing, you agree that FSU Canada may also send you information about our work.
6. Data Retention and Security
- Retention: We retain your information until you request to be removed from our database. Information related to donations is retained for the duration required by the Canada Revenue Agency for tax and audit purposes.
- Security: Access to all personal information is restricted to FSU Canada officers, employees, and authorized agents only. All sensitive data is encrypted during transmission via SSL (HTTPS).
7. Your Rights Over Your Data
You can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you or request that we erase any personal data we hold. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
